Eclipse Media Group is excited to have two college interns join us for the summer months. At EMG, our interns work on a variety of projects, from blog, social media and general content creation, to research projects and report building. Join us in welcoming Lindsay Erb, from Scarborough, Maine and Savanna Perry from Sanford, Maine.
Where are you going to school? What’s your major and why did it interest you? What are your specific goals?
Lindsay: I am currently a junior at Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts. I started out as a psychology major, then switched my major to business management. I then decided to focus on the marketing side of business after completing my marketing internship with Berry Dunn, an accounting firm here in Maine, as well as tying in my interest in psychology. Public relations and marketing interests me as I am present on multiple social media platforms, and I love creating/editing media that is appealing to the eye. A goal I have moving forward is to expand my knowledge through real-life experiences, one being my semester abroad in Madrid, Spain this fall. I will be taking a few different business/marketing courses abroad that will give me more insight into the business world.
Savanna: I am a senior communications major with a minor in journalism at The University of Tampa. I was drawn to communications because media has always been a big part of my life. Growing up, I originally wanted to go to school for film. When I got to high school, I realized I wanted something broader and more versatile. That’s when I decided on communications. My minor in journalism is actually very recent; I only added it at the end of the fall 2020 semester as I had taken a few journalism courses and could easily complete the minor. This past semester, I realized I really enjoy journalism and am very glad I decided to add the minor. I really love all aspects of communication; I plan on getting my master’s degree in communications either at The University of Tampa or somewhere abroad.
What made you want to consider a career in public relations/marketing?
Lindsay: As I mentioned above, PR/marketing interests me as I feel like it ties in with psychology in some respects. I also really enjoy working with other people, and this industry gives you the opportunity to connect with many kinds of people and companies. Communications is also evolving so much today, and I am excited about what is to come in terms of technology.
Savanna: When I decided to major in Communications, public relations and marketing were the first fields I thought about going into. Communications is so broad, but public relations caught my interest. I enjoy helping people in any way possible, and I’m able to do that through public relations.
What are you most excited to learn during this internship?
Lindsay: I am most excited to learn more about writing and blogging, which is very big part of what Eclipse Media Group does for its clients! It will help me to improve my skills as a writer as well as provide me with more knowledge about how PR and marketing works. I am also excited to learn more about how a real-life business works by being present in the office weekly with professionals.
Savanna: I’m most excited to learn how this industry works and to get real-world experience in it. I also can’t wait to grow all of my communication skills during my time here. I’m hoping this internship will really solidify what I want to do after I graduate college.
What are your hobbies?
Lindsay: Some of my hobbies include boating along the coast with my family, going to concerts and listening to music, skiing at Sunday River in the winter, and spending time with friends.
Savanna: My biggest hobby would have to be music. I’ve been playing the trumpet since the fifth grade and percussion since the ninth grade. In college, I participated in Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Orchestra, Spartan Band, and Trumpet Lessons. I am also a brother of Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Fraternity for College and University Bandmembers. I can’t imagine my life without music.
What’s your favorite thing about a Maine summer?
Lindsay: My favorite thing about a Maine summer is spending time at the five beaches in my hometown and enjoying all the beautiful scenery in the area.
Savanna: Maine is such a versatile place. One day I could be at the beach, the next day I could be hiking up a mountain or walking through the Old Port. You can do so many different things in Maine, it never gets old. My personal favorite thing to do in the summer is to go camping with my family. We’ve been going camping at the same campground during the same week every year since before I turned one year-old.
